wordpress Maintenance page

Hi,

I found these 2 articles that seem to be easy... but
http://sivel.net/2009/06/wordpress-main … -a-plugin/
and http://sivel.net/2009/06/wordpress-main … in-part-2/

For some reason it doesn't work for me.

I'm fairly new at Wordpress.
My question is: what version of wordpress are these articles good for.  We are using wordpress 2.3.2 and when I check  in the wp-settings.php file, I don't find any reference for .maintenance.

we want to put the maintenance page up so that we can move our site to another server that will contain a more recent version of wordpress.
we want to put a maintenance page up during this period.

Can someone help?

Please advise
Thank You
John

Re: wordpress Maintenance page

This functionality requires at least WordPress 2.7.

It may be best to look for a plugin to handle your situation.  Perhaps see http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/maintenance-mode/
